Description
Join us for a full-day, immersive Hands-on Herbal Workshop at Huckleberry Mountain Botanicals Homestead! This comprehensive workshop, led by our expert instructor Monica, offers a unique opportunity to dive deep into the world of herbalism and permaculture.
The day will begin promptly at 9:00 AM with a one-hour plant identification walk. During this guided tour, we will discuss wildcraft ethics and, if the opportunity arises, practice wildcrafting by harvesting a plant ready for use. Be prepared to learn about the fascinating world of local flora and their various uses.
After our plant ID walk, we will return to the kitchen for a 45-minute herbal tasting exercise. Participants will explore the different tastes of herbs and learn how these flavors can provide valuable information about herbal energetics and actions.
Following the tasting session, Monica will deliver a short lecture on the basics of permaculture and growing herbs. This informative session will provide attendees with a solid foundation in sustainable gardening practices and techniques.
At noon, we will break for a one-hour lunch. For an additional $10, a delicious, wholesome meal will be provided, which includes chicken salad with sprouts on whole grain bread, fruit, carrot salad, drink, and a small dessert. Participants are also welcome to bring their own lunch if they prefer.
Our workshop will resume at 1:00 PM with a discussion on designing the perfect herb garden tailored to individual needs and preferences. Monica will share her insights on how to create a thriving, personalized herbal oasis.
The remainder of the day will be dedicated to hands-on herbal preparations. Participants will learn how to create various herbal remedies, such as salves, infused oils, hot and cold infusions, decoctions, poultices, compresses, and lotions. A $25 herbal kit fee is required for Hybrid program students, which includes all necessary materials to complete the herbal preparations.
The cost of the workshop is $150 (includes herbal kit fee), with a special discounted rate of $75 for Fundamental students (graduate or present students).
